ASSIGNMENT #3

Assignment #3:  Collage and Minimalism

Make 2 – 4 paintings using one or both of the following options (TWO OF EACH ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED)

#1 Collage/Assemblage:

           

·      “Build” two abstract paintings out of found color using any combination of paper, fabric or objects. Fragments of images are welcome, but avoid overall recognizable imagery. (Patterns are fine)       

·      Apply strategies from Assignment #1 or #2 to develop color & composition or determine your own methods.

#2 Minimalism:

·      Make two minimalist paintings using no more than 3 visual elements (Mixed media welcome)

·      Choose a single visual element as main focus: line, color, pattern, form, surface, structural relationship to space/viewer, etc.

Note: Two things are “key” to minimalism: bravery and quality.  Dare to use few things, and through your care and thoughtfulness, prove their visual power.

Final Critique Schedule:

Tuesday 11/29

• GROUP 1 Final Group critique (GROUP 2 leads critiques)
• GROUP 2 bring food or drinks for class

Tuesday 12/6

• GROUP 2 Final Group critique (GROUP 1 leads critiques)
• Group 1 bring food or drinks for class
